In the cyber age of the twenty-first century, everything has shifted to virtual platforms. Information technology has drastically changed the lives of people. The blend of “Cyber” and “Crime” refers to the crimes committed through the computers and internet. Where indulgence in cyberspace has provided people with wonderful opportunities, overindulgence has resulted in the misuse of such a technology. The exponential increase in the number of internet users in India and the rapidly evolving technologies have also brought in its own unique challenges, besides aggravating the existing problems of cyber crimes, which is one of the fastest growing forms of transnational and insidious crimes.

Cyber crimes can be prevented through ‘Cyber Hygiene’ by inculcating habits of taking basic care of ICT devices at regular intervals such as, properly shutting down the computer, changing passwords at regular intervals, being cautious against opening of phishing websites along with other websites, precautions to be taken while handling social media platforms, protection against data theft, collection and disposal of e-waste etc.

Cyber Security Cell of GDC Sugh Bhatoli has been functioning since session 2022-23 to make students aware and to protect them from the various crimes committed through the internet. Students and youth use social media platforms heavily and also fall prey to online fraudsters and cyber criminals. The main objective of the cell is to spread awareness of cyber security threats among students and the community. This will help to build capabilities to prevent and respond to cyber threats.
